    Axe Throwing in Barcelona

An original birthday party, a stag or hen do that people will remember for a long time needs to be astonishing from beginning to end. If that’s what you’re looking for, we suggest axe throwing, you won’t regret it.

For this activity, there’s no need to be in top physical shape. It’s not about being the strongest when throwing, but the most skilled, much like darts, but far more thrilling. A great adrenaline rush for everyone, laughter and chuckles will accompany you throughout the entire activity.

Axe throwing takes place in the heart of Barcelona, close to the Sagrada Familia and the Plaza de Toros La Monumental, in facilities perfectly suited for this practice.

Besides being a bit Viking, how do you play?

    Game dynamics

We don’t want to bombard you with many instructions, so in a nutshell, imagine that axe throwing is very similar to dart throwing. The objective of these axes is to hit as close to the bullseye as possible.

And don’t think this is a very geeky thing, not at all! This activity is becoming so popular that it can now be practised in many places specifically created for it.

So, grip the axe by the lower part of the handle, keep your wrist steady, aim to form a 90º angle between the axe and your arm. Once this is done, step forward and aim the edge at the bullseye, the axe head should go towards your shoulder, get some momentum from the back and throw!

    Safety

Well, bear in mind that safety is paramount in this kind of activity. The most important thing is not to rush. You must look around and ensure no one is standing between you and the target. Keep a minimum radius of distance, like about two metres, or if possible, have your area marked out and no one can suddenly pass through.

    Who wins?

There are different ways to practice axe throwing in Barcelona. Who wins? Well, in the end, the whole group. You will all win in fun, laughter, and much merriment. Both boys and girls, because what matters here is to have a great time and remember it for a long time.

You don’t have to be too competitive and what matters is enjoying the company of those around you, although of course, there always has to be a winner, but in this case…

    Origin of axe throwing

A legend tells that the first axe throwing challenges or contests were promoted in the lands of North America. But there are also older competition traditions among Celtic tribes in Europe.

The history of axe throwing, in any case, is a passion that is growing day by day among people of all ages. It is quickly becoming a very peculiar type of activity.

Well-known examples are the lumberjack competitions in many rural areas or, to go no further, the tradition in the Basque Country and in the Nordic countries.
